Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Comeback Runs Out Of Time

For the fourth straight game the Dominican University men's basketball team found themselves facing a second half deficit, trailing the Aurora University Spartans by as many as 16, 59-43 with 13:30 to play, before making a furious comeback behind 26 second half points from Josh Mayberry on Wednesday night.  The Stars managed to narrow the gap down to three when Ben Walker buried a corner three with 47 seconds remaining before the comeback ran out of time.

Mayberry finished with a career-high 37 points on 15-for-23 shooting from the field that included 5-for-8 from three-point distance.  The Michigan native added eight rebounds, six assists and one steal in 35 minutes to pace the Stars.  Mayberry now has 1,630 career points, sitting in fourth on the Stars' all-time scoring list, just eight points out of third and 47 points behind Dominican University Hall of Famer Matt Maras for second.

Dominican outshot the Spartans, shooting better than 51-percent from the field to Aurora's 46-percent field goal percentage but the Stars turned the ball over 18 times to Aurora's nine, leading to 22 points off of turnovers for Aurora.  The Spartans also converted on 13 of 14 attempts from the foul line while Dominican went just 5-for-10 at the charity stripe.

Walker, a freshman, added 14 points off the bench for the Stars, going 4-for-6 from three.  After breaking out against the Spartans with 22 points the last time the two teams met back on January 12, Walker has averaged 10.8 points per game while shooting 52-percent from three.

For the Spartans, Max Vickers led the way with 28 points.  Jordan LaGrone (18), Marcus Myers (16) and Matt Dunn (14) rounded out four in double-figures for Aurora.

Dominican, now 11-11 overall and 8-9 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), return to action on Saturday, traveling to Milwaukee to meet the MSOE Raiders.  Tipoff is slated for 4:15 p.m.
