Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Stars Overpower Sabres

The Dominican University men's volleyball team continued to shine, sweeping through the Marian University Sabres, 25-12, 25-23, 25-18, on Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum.  With the win, the Stars improve to 22-2 on the season and 16-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) with just two regular season games remaining before the 2017 MCVL Tournament.

"Now is when the fun begins," commented Dan Ames, the Stars' fourth-year head coach. "From here on out, every game is going to have a postseason feel to it.  We have the top two teams in the Western Division to play next week on the road and then it is conference tournament time.  Having seniors for the first time in program history is going to be huge for us as we move forward. We will rely on their leadership and maturity as the intensity and pressure ramp up next weekend."

Dominican completely dominated the Sabres, hitting a blistering .773 in the first set to set the tone for the entire match.  The Stars finished with a .435 attack percentage for the match behind setter Alex Coyne who dished out 37 assists.  Coyne used ten different attackers with Luke Spicer, Michal Kawa and Ethan Klosak logging six kills apiece while Jeremy Royko added five.

Defensively, the Stars held the Sabres to a .186 attack error, picking up 26 digs and posting four blocks on Marian's 70 attack attempts.  Klosak tallied a game-high six digs while Mason Solbrig picked up a pair of block assists.

The Stars hit the road for the final two regular season games of the season, traveling up I-94 into Wisconsin to take on the #4 Carthage College Redmen on Friday night in Kenosha before meeting the #14 MSOE Raiders on Saturday.  The Stars will then compete in the semifinals of the MCVL Tournament on Friday, April 14.
