The Dominican University baseball team dropped a pair of games in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, falling to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 10-4 in game one before coming up short in game two, 4-2.
Â
The Falcons opened up a 7-0 lead in game one that the Stars could not overcome. Dominican managed to cut the lead down to four, 7-3, with three innings to play but surrendered three runs in the bottom of the eighth.  In game two, the Stars trailed 4-0 before scratching across a run in the top of the eighth on
Matt Segovia's first collegiate home run.Â
Â
Dominican got another run in the top of the ninth and loaded the bases to put the go-ahead run on base before the Falcons slammed the door.
Â
"We dug ourselves a hole early in the first game that we could not get out of," said the Stars' sixth-year head coach Steve Hardman. "As the story has been most of the year, we had scoring opportunities that we just did not capitalize on. Then in game two we started off slow but battled back and put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth but came up empty."
Â
"As we walked off the field I had the guys look around the ballpark and told them if they want to be back here playing in the conference tournament, we need to turn things around in a hurry."
Â
The Stars managed 12 hits in game one, led by
Mike Buckley who went 3-for-5 while
Colin Janison finished 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles. However, Dominican left 11 runners on base in the game, the tenth time the Stars have stranded double-digit runners in 19 games this season.
Â
The Stars, now 5-14 on the season, return to Schaumburg Boomers Stadium on Sunday, hosting the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors for a 12:00 p.m. NACC doubleheader.
