After a weekend tournament at Washington University-St. Louis to open the season, the Dominican University women's volleyball team returned to River Forest, topping the St. Norbert College Green Knights in three sets to open the Stars' 2017 home slate.
Kendyl Todd knocked down 11 kills on just 18 swings to pace the Dominican attack while
Megan Parker served a trio of aces and collected a team-high nine digs.
Todd and fellow middle,
Stephanie Cole set the tone in the first set. The duo combined for seven kills on 14 attacks without committing an error and added a solo block and a pair of block assists.
With the Green Knights looking to slow Todd and Cole, freshman setter
Anastasia Labadessa turned to sophomore outside
Elin Ream to carry the load. Ream knocked down four of her five kills on the night in the second set, going 4-1-7 (K-E-A).
Todd then put the match to rest in the third, going off for seven kills on just ten swings while Labadessa knocked down three kills of her own in the clinching set.
For the match, the Stars hit .253 as a team. Labadessa finished the night with 21 assists and added eight digs and six kills. Cole finished with six kills of her own, while Ream and freshman
Gillian Jones knocked down five kills apiece.
Defensively, the Stars limited the Green Knights to a .078 attack percentage, posting seven total blocks and collecting 37 digs.
