The Dominican University women's basketball team saw their four-game winning streak come to a close on Saturday, falling to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars 79-62 in the River Forest Rivalry Cup Series. The loss drops the Stars to 9-8 overall and 5-7 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
Trailing 21-17 after the first quarter, the Dominican offense managed just two field goals and five points in the second quarter as the Cougars opened a 40-22 lead at the half and never looked back.
Timiya Ray scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season for the Stars.
"Today we backed down from the challenge a little," said Gabby Johnson, the Stars' head coach. "When you're trying to build a program, you are going to have days like this. We will keep working towards figuring out how to work through tough times and mistakes and I know we will get there. The good news is we play a team with a similar style of play on Wednesday, so we can learn from today and be better prepared for Wednesday."
On Wednesday, Dominican will host the Lakeland University Muskies for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
