Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Snap Skid At Alverno

The Dominican University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 56-47 win at Alverno College on Tuesday evening in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.  The win pushes the Stars back to .500 on the season and gives Dominican (10-10) just their fourth double-digit win season since transitioning to NCAA Division III in 2000.

The Stars shot near 40-percent from the floor on the night, converting on 24 of 61 field goal attempts, despite going just 2-for-17 from beyond the three-point arc.  Timiya Ray scored nine of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter as Dominican led for the final 12:42.

"Today was a team win," commented Gabby Johnson, the Stars' head coach. "We had kids who brought a little bit of everything to the table. Katie Uzoras made a difference for us in the second half with her defense and ability to score in the paint.  Timiya showed why she is one of the best in the league. She can impact a game in every stat column and Alexis Hoskins kept us in the game with her work on the offensive glass.  Amari Stafford did a great job distributing the ball, finding her open teammates and putting them in position to score."

After five ties and 11 lead changes in the first half, Dominican used a 13-0 run that spanned more than five minutes in the third quarter to open a 41-32 lead and then held on in the fourth, shooting 6-for-12 from the field.

Hoskins joined Ray in double-figures, logging her second double-double of the season with 15 points and ten rebounds.  Uzoras finished with six points and eight boards despite playing just 15 minutes.

For the Inferno, Karli Selear led three in double digits with 15 points on 6-for-16 shooting.

Dominican returns home to host the Marian University Sabres on Saturday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
