Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Stars Top Alverno

The Dominican University women's volleyball team picked up a four-set (25-12, 25-27, 25-12, 25-7) win over the Alverno College Inferno in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Friday night at the Igini Sports Forum.  With the win, the Stars improve to 14-7 overall and 6-2 in league play, returning to action on Saturday, taking on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks and Kalamazoo College Hornets in a tri-match hosted by Illinois Tech.

The Stars hit .260 in the winning effort, despite committing seven errors in the second-set loss.  Freshman Gabija Sinickaite led the attack, knocking down 11 kills on 20 attacks while committing just one error.  Olivia Magnussen added eight kills on just 15 swings while Katelyn Flayter tallied six kills in the winning effort.  Anastasia Labadessa and Madeline Morrow shared setting responsibilities dishing out 22 and 11 assists respectively.

Defensively, Dominican posted six blocks and collected 52 digs to hold the Inferno attack to a -.026 hitting percentage.  The Stars allowed Alverno to collect just 26 digs while forcing 29 errors.  Megan Parker logged a match-high 14 digs while Sarah Lychock added 12 digs in the Dominican back row.  At the net, Sinickaite posted three total blocks (two solo, one assist) to lead the charge.

With four NACC matches remaining on the Dominican University regular season schedule, the Stars sit in a tie for fourth-place in the conference standings.  After Dominican's match at Illinois Tech on Saturday, the Stars will meet three teams ahead of them in the NACC standings, including the Stars' NACC regular season finale at conference-leading Aurora on October 24.
