Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Blank Benedictine For Tenth Straight Win

The Dominican University women's soccer team extended their winning streak to ten matches with a 2-0 win over the Benedictine University Eagles at the Sports Complex in Lisle, Illinois, on Wednesday night.  With the win, the Stars improve to 10-2-0 on the season and a perfect 5-0-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

"We played well, controlled the tempo and stayed organized defensively," said Dominican University head coach Carlos Carrillo reflecting on his team's win. "It was very windy out but we still managed to play well under the conditions. We created some good opportunities in the second half and scored two beautiful team goals.  This is another great team win and another shutout."

After a scoreless first half that saw the Stars outshoot the Eagles 11-2, Dominican finally cracked the scoreless tie in the 59th minute when Danielle Mason got on the end of Maggie McClure's corner kick service, one-touching a shot inside the near post.  The score was the second of the season for Mason and the sixth assist of the season for McClure.

Ten minutes later the Stars took advantage of another restart, this time scoring when Daniela Tovar-Miranda's restart service for the back side found Leah Kostos who centered a pass that Tania Paez knocked in for her sixth goal of the season.

In total, the Stars held a 21-6 advantage in shots, including 11-3 in shots on goal, and earned 11 corners while surrendering just one to the Eagles.  Abbey Brown made three saves in the winning effort, posting her sixth shutout of the season to improve to 6-2-0 in the goal.

The Stars will return home to host the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons on Saturday, for a matchup between the final two unbeaten teams in NACC play.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
