Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Sting Hornets In Home Opener

The Dominican University women's basketball team cruised to a 69-41 win over the visiting Kalamazoo College Hornets at the Igini Sports Forum on Saturday night to improve to 2-0 on the season.  The Stars used a 32-9 third quarter to put the game out of reach, managing to sit their starters for the entire fourth quarter.

"We had a rough start tonight," said Amanda Parker, the Stars' first-year head coach, following the win, "but we stayed focused and got back to our strengths. We had great second and third quarters as a team.  It was very fun to watch. Once we get everything clicking on all cylinders, this team will do some truly special things."

Junior Alexis Hoskins led the way for the Stars, dropping in 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting while adding seven rebounds, two steals and a block.  Hoskins scored nine in the Stars' huge third quarter.  Sophia Kramer and Hannah Currant joined Hoskins in double-figures, combining for 22 points off the bench with Kramer managing 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting and Currant adding ten on 5-for-9 shooting.

As a team, the Stars shot 40-percent from the field, 28-for-69, including connecting on six of their 18 attempts from three-point range.  Dominican forced 27 turnovers, leading to 25 points off of turnovers and pulled down 21 offensive rebounds, leading to 21 second chance points.

For the Hornets, Kaytlyn Tidey scored a game-high 20 points on 6-for-17 shooting from the field.  The rest of the Hornets managed just eight field goals, combining to go 8-for-40 from the field.

The Stars will open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Thursday, November 15, hosting the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at the Igini Sports Forum.
