Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Stars Best Spartans

The Dominican University men's volleyball team got the best of the Aurora University Spartans, a first-year program, topping the Spartans in three sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-22) in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Wednesday night at the Igini Sports Forum.  Senior Luke Spicer paced the Stars for the second consecutive match, knocking down 12 kills on 23 swings, hitting .435 in the winning effort.

"There are a lot of positives to take away from today's match," said Dan Pawlikowski, Dominican's head men's volleyball coach. "First is the result—it is always great to earn the sweep. Second, the offense was clicking again; and third we responded as a group each time Aurora threatened to take the lead. Now we can start to focus on the East Coast Trip!"

Freshman setter Jack McGuire ran the offense to a .298 hitting percentage, using six different hitters to collect 31 assists.  After Spicer's 11 kills, Nick Timreck finished with eight kills on 11 attempts while Jake Sidner tallied five kills on 15 swings without committing an error.

McGuire rounded out a double-double effort with a match-high ten digs to lead the Stars' defensive effort.  At the net, Dominican posted five blocks led by Troy Kates who recorded four block assists.

For the Spartans, Tim Breiter finished with a match-high 15 kills on 26 swings, committing five errors.  In total, the Spartans finished with 15 errors to 33 kills, hitting .205 in the loss.

Dominican, now 10-4 on the season, hits the road for New York for six matches in four days, starting with Southern Virginia University and Ramapo College at Ramapo on Saturday, March 3.
