The Dominican University men's tennis team picked up play in the 2017-2018 season on Friday evening, shutting out the Grace Bible College Tigers 9-0 to improve to 1-2 on the season. The Stars will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday, hosting the Concordia University-Ann Arbor Cardinals for a 3:00 p.m. match at the Forest Park Tennis Courts.
"It was great to pick up our first win today and a great start to the spring season," commented Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head men's tennis coach. "Despite the cold weather, we got off to a great start, sweeping doubles and then carried that momentum into singles play. It was good to see the guys play with confidence and compete for every point. This will provide some great momentum as we head into action tomorrow."
Dominican's
John Mysz and
Camden Knights rolled through the Tigers' number one doubles team of Grant Garrison and Nick Pilieci, 8-2, while
Tarik Abdullah and
Frank Lally topped Lake Serba and Caleb Anderson by a score of 8-3 at number two doubles.
In singles play, Mysz cruised through Serba, 6-0, 6-1, at number one singles and
Antonio Morales was equally impressive at number two singles, topping Pilieci, 6-1, 6-3.
