Stars Return The Favor To Snap Skid

After the Dominican University softball team saw the Mount Union Raiders walk off in the Stars' first game on Saturday, it was Dominican's turn to walk off on the Roger Williams University Hawks in the Stars' second game of the day on Friday, snapping Dominican's three-game losing skid.  The split on the day pushes the Stars to 6-4 on the season with games against Ursinus College and SUNY Geneseo on deck for Saturday.

Game One: Mount Union 8, Dominican 7

The Stars opened a 7-2 lead through four innings before the Raiders struck for a run in the fifth and then scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to take the game from Dominican, 8-7.

Gabi Alfaro belted a two-run home run in the top of the first as Dominican brought the bats early.

After Mount Union evened the score in the bottom of the second, the Stars scored three runs in the third and two more in the fourth when Ali Woitovich lined a two-out single to left to score Katie Fredrick and Marissa Burns.  The Stars managed just one more hit, a one-out single by Woitovich in the top of the seventh, the rest of the game.

Sydney Kuderna got the start in the circle for the Stars, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits over the first five innings.  The junior then turned the game over to Behrens for the next 1.1 innings.  Behrens was tagged for four runs on four hits. Behrens handed the game back to Kuderna in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second and the Stars still ahead 7-5.  In her return to the circle, the Raiders got to Kuderna for three hits, including the game-winning hit by Morgan Riley with two outs and the bases loaded.

The Stars managed 11 hits in the loss.  Woitovich led the offensive outburst, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Game Two: Dominican 2, Roger Williams 1

CJ Mardirosian's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh scored Burns as the Stars topped Roger Williams 2-1.  Burns had singled to center earlier in the inning and went first-to-third when Alfaro roped a double to left-center.  After a walk to Woitovich, Mardirosian drove the first pitch she saw out to right for the game-winning run.

Dominican had just two hits through the first six innings but managed to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Jacadi Rivera laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Fredrick.

The Hawks evened the score in the fourth when Taylor Chatowsky lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Valerie Moran who had tripled earlier in the inning.

Cat Klostermann went the distance for Dominican, improving to 3-3 in the circle.  The sophomore right-hander scattered four hits and a walk over the seven innings while striking out five.
