The Dominican University men's tennis team doused the Knox College Prairie Fire, scoring an 8-1 win in the Stars' final non-conference match before opening Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play next Saturday.
"I am proud of the effort, poise and precision the guys played with today," said Troy Tonsil, the Stars' second-year head coach. "Despite the loss at number one doubles, we controlled the match throughout the day. We minimized our errors and were aggressive. We did a great job getting our first serves in throughout the match. We definitely got better today and I am excited to open conference play next weekend."
The Stars took a 2-1 lead after doubles action after
Tarik Abdullah and
Frank Lally rallied for a 9-7 win over Knox's number two doubles team of Jeffrey Xue and Brad Newland. Dominican then went on to sweep through singles action, including a 6-0, 6-0 win by
Josh Sapnu at number six singles.
