The Dominican University women's volleyball team ran their season-best winning streak to four matches on Tuesday night, topping the Benedictine University Eagles in three sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-15) to improve to 8-5 on the season and 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars hit a season-high .408 in the winning effort, collecting 48 kills on 103 attacks while committing just six errors.
"It's great to get another home win in conference," said Cameron Andrew, the Stars' head women's volleyball coach, following the match. "We are playing very controlled volleyball right now which is something we put a lot of focus on."
"That was the best offensive outing we've had this year," continued Andrew. "Hitting .408 is fantastic and we earned 61 points over three sets which is amazing. Everyone chipped in offensively and earned us another win."
Anastasia Labadessa and
Madi Palmer shared setting responsibilities, doling out 24 and 15 assists respectively while utilizing nine different hitters throughout the night.
Summer Smith led the way with 11 kills on just 21 attacks while
Gillian Jones added seven and freshman
Gabija Sinickaite knocked down seven on the night. Dominican's middles,
Olivia Magnussen,
Stephanie Cole and
Haley Notzen, combined for 14 kills on 23 attempts while committing just one error.
At the serving line, Dominican collected nine aces led by Labadessa and Jones who picked up four and three aces respectively.
Defensively, the Stars collected 45 digs led by Labadessa who rounded out her fifth double-double of the season with 11 digs. Jones added ten while libero
Megan Parker finished the night with nine. Dominican's back row effort slowed the Eagles to a .229 attack percentage, allowing the Eagles to score just 38 points on the night.
Dominican will host the Augustana College Vikings on Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt before a nine-day layoff, returning to league play on Friday, September 28th, when the Edgewood College Eagles visit the Igini Sports Forum.
