The Dominican University women's tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference duals on Saturday in Galesburg, Illinois, falling to the Knox College Prairie Fire, 5-4, before dropping a 9-0 match to the Greenville University Panthers.
"It was a very competitive day for us," said Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head coach. "We did not produce an overall match win but we did see some good things throughout the day. We were competitive, including producing singles wins with
Sharon Neiza,
Maya Banks and
Evelyn Garcia and we picked up our first doubles' win at number three doubles. A lot of positives to carry into the remaining conference schedule."
In the match against the Prairie Fire, Garcia and partner
Evelyn Silva edged Knox's Jamahra Richardson and Abby Ball, 8-5. Dominican then went on to score wins at numbers two, four and six singles by Neiza, Banks and Garcia respectively.
Dominican will be back in action on Saturday, September 29, traveling to nearby Concordia University Chicago for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Cougars.
