The Dominican University women's tennis team fell in their rivalry match with the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Saturday morning, 8-1. The loss drops Dominican to 0-9 on the year and 0-6 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play and evens up the River Forest Rivalry Cup sponsored by Northwestern Mutual at 10-10.
"Tough one in conference play for us today," said Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head coach. "We were competitive but not consistent to earn a few more games. Nevertheless, I was happy that Sharon Neiza got her first singles win at number one. She was poised, patient and made really good shots throughout the match—very impressive."
Neiza tallied the Stars' lone point, rolling through Concordia Chicago's Callie Strayer, 6-2, 6-1. The win is the second singles win of the season for the sophomore, improving to 2-6 in singles action.
Dominican has a pair of conference matches on the schedule next Saturday, hosting Wisconsin Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. before Alverno College visits Forest Park at 2:00 p.m.
