The Dominican University women's tennis team took to the courts for the first time in 2018, falling to the Aurora University Spartans, 9-0, to open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.
 
#Heidi Carvajal# took Aurora's Giselle Salazar to a tie-breaker third set before falling, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.  The junior had teamed with sophomore #Sharon Neiza# at number one doubles, putting up a fight with the Spartans' Salazar and Sami Hultine who eventually came out on top 8-5.
 
"The final result was not indicative of the effort we gave today," said Troy Tonsil, the Stars' second-year head coach. "We battled and were competitive through the match. Sharon [Neiza] and Heidi [Carvajal] led the way. Both worked for every point and were able to take a few games. We have a lot to learn but a lot of good things to build on as well."
 
The Stars continue to navigate conference play on Saturday, traveling north to take on the Marian University Sabres and Lakeland University Muskies in a pair of NACC dual matches.
