Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Edged By Falcons

The Dominican University women's basketball team slipped to 11-7 on the season and 7-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), suffering a 70-61 setback to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons on Tuesday night in Mequon, Wisconsin.

"When you look at the stat sheet and see that we are better in so many categories and still come up short, it is deflating," said Amanda Parker, the Stars' head women's basketball coach following the loss. "We must finish shots around the rim and make the most of our possessions. We did not do that tonight."

The Stars got off to a hot start, shooting 12-for-32 from the field, including 7-for-11 from three in the opening half to lead by as many as eight, 30-22, midway through the second quarter.  Sophomore Alisha Markley scored 12 of her 14 in the opening half, going 4-for-4 from three.

The second half saw Dominican's hot hand cool off, managing to convert on just one of six attempts from beyond the three-point line and ten of 26 attempts from the field.  Meanwhile, the Falcons scored 39 after the break, on 13-for-25 shooting and converted on ten of 13 trips to the foul line over the game's final 20 minutes to overtake the Stars.

Markley and Timiya Ray shared team-high honors with 14 points apiece while Amari Stafford chipped in ten points to round out three in double-figures scoring for Dominican in the loss.  As a team, Dominican finished 8-for-17 from three.  Markley closed out the night shooting 4-for-9 from long distance while Ray was a perfect 2-for-2.

The Stars held a 34-29 advantage on the glass, pulling down 18 offensive rebounds but managed to turn those extra possessions into just nine second-chance points.

For the Falcons, Baylee Barker led three in double-digits, scoring a game-high 18 points on 5-for-10 shooting.  Arianna Liddicoat added 17 points while Clara Chambers pitched in 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting.  The Falcons shot eight more free throws than Dominican, converting on 16 of 22 trips to the foul line.

Dominican will return home and look to get back on track on Thursday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at the Igini Sports Forum.
