The Dominican University women's volleyball team picked up a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) win on Friday night at the Igini Sports Forum, sweeping through the Marian University Sabres (25-20, 25-18, 25-21). With the win, the Stars improve to 15-5 overall and 4-2 in league play.
The Stars hit .267 in the winning effort, picking up 46 kills to the Sabres' 25 and served nine aces in comparison to Marian's six.
Freshman
Keely McCallum continued to impress in her rookie season, knocking down a match-high 13 kills while hitting at a .579 clip. After picking up three kills on five swings with two errors in the first set, the first-year standout was nearly flawless over the final two sets, knocking down ten kills on 14 attacks without committing an error.
Gillian Jones added 11 kills while
Gabija Sinickaite and
Summer Smith terminated nine and seven rallies respectively.
Anastasia Labadessa doled out a team-high 26 assists while classmate
Natalie Jones dished out 11.
Defensively, the Stars slowed the Sabres' attack to a .173 hitting percentage, allowing just 25 kills. Dominican's back row collected 40 digs paced by libero
Sarah Lychock's 14 digs. At the net, the Dominican block posted four blocks.
Olivia Magnussen picked up three block assists and another solo block.
The Stars have a quick turnaround, returning to the Igini Sports Forum on Saturday afternoon for a noon match against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons.
