Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Top MSOE To Move To NACC Final

The Dominican University men's soccer team punched its ticket back to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Championship round for the 14th time in 15 years with a 1-0 win over the MSOE Raiders in the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at West Campus Field. With the win, the Stars improve to 15-2-3 overall and will look to win their 11th NACC Tournament title on Saturday and earn the program's 16th bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship tournament.

"Survive and advance is what this time of the year is all about," commented Erick Baumann, the Stars' long-tenured head coach, "and we did that today with the 1-0 shutout win.  It wasn't very pretty, or the most intelligently we've played, but the guys got it done.  Now onto preparing for Saturday and work to get our AQ."

The lone goal in the contest came in the 64th minute of play, scoring on one of their nine corner kicks in the match.  After a Raider defender could not head the initial service out of the box, Jonathan Hernandez found Joshua Prindle near the top of the six-yard box where Prindle was able to put a right-footed shot inside the near post for his second goal of the season and first game-winner.

"We stayed together," said Prindle following the match. "We knew they were going to be organized and keep things tight in the back.  We knew one was coming. It was rewarding to put one in after being frustrated with not being able to put one in in the first half after keeping possession in their end."

The Stars then were able to withstand a late MSOE flurry but dominated the majority of the match, outshooting the Raiders, 9-5 and putting six shots on frame.  The Stars also earned nine corners while surrendering just three to MSOE.

Daniel Dominguez earned the shutout, his eighth of the season, making three saves in the win.

The Stars will face the winner of the Benedictine-Aurora semifinal in the NACC Championship on Saturday. Dominican earned the right to host the NACC Final as the tournament's top seed.  Game time is to be determined, pending the outcome of Dominican's women's semifinal match that will be played on Wednesday afternoon.
