Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Outlast Regents

The Dominican University women's basketball team picked up a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) victory on Saturday evening, topping the Rockford University Regents, 53-42, at the Igini Sports Forum.  With the win, the Stars improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play with Edgewood College Eagles visiting the Stars in River Forest on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.

On Saturday, the Stars led by as many as 19 points in the final 3:30 of the third quarter before the Regents managed to whittle the lead all the way down to six in the final minute of the game before the Stars scored the final five points to seal the victory.

"Today, we did not click as a team—on either end," commented Amanda Parker, the Stars' second-year head coach, following the win. "Nothing is more frustrating as a coach, when your team doesn't play to its full potential. We cannot pick and choose when we want to play hard. It doesn't work that way. We have a lot to get better at before Tuesday."

The Stars shot just over 30-percent in the winning effort, 20-for-65, including connecting on just two of 14 attempts from three-point distance, but forced 27 Rockford turnovers and pulled down 14 offensive rebounds to get up 21 more shots than the Regents.

Alexis Hoskins paced the offense, scoring a game-high 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting.  The senior guard added four boards and three steals in 19 minutes of work.  Alisha Markley (11 points) and Hannah Currant (10 points) rounded out three in double-figures scoring for Dominican.

For Rockford, Neve Yerk was the lone player in double-digits, dropping in 11 points in 39 minutes.
