Stars Downed In Road NACC Action

The Dominican University women's basketball team slipped in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) road action on Saturday evening, falling to the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, 60-51, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The loss drops the Stars to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

"We are having a really bad stretch of basketball right now," said Amanda Parker, the Stars' second-year head coach, "with not the outcomes we are anticipating. We cannot continue to go through the motions and do things the way we have been—it's not working. As coaches, we need to analyze what and who we have and mix some things up…hopefully for the better."

The Warriors used an 8-0 run over the final three minutes of the first quarter, opening a 17-11 lead they would never relinquish.  Wisconsin Lutheran extended the lead to 27-19 at the break before the Stars made a run.  After Alisha Markley buried a three, Alexis Hoskins scored in the paint to trim the Warriors lead down to four, 39-35, with 1:15 to play in the third quarter.  Timiya Ray cut the lead down to three with a layup on the Stars' first possession of the fourth quarter before a quick 5-0 spurt pushed the lead back to eight for the Warriors.

The Stars cut the lead down to six on four separate occasions in the final period but could not get any closer.

Ray finished with a team-high 20 points on 7-for-17 shooting for the Stars.

As a team, Dominican shot just 15-for-56 from the field, including 3-for-13 from three.  The Warriors finished 18-for-45 from the field, 9-for-19 from three.

Jenna Mace scored a game-high 25 points in the winning effort, converting on 12 of 17 trips to the foul line.

The Stars will sit idle until next Saturday, traveling to Notre Dame, Indiana, to take on the Saint Mary's College Belles.  Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. ET.
