Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Knocked Off By NACC Champs

The Dominican University women's basketball team saw the 2018-2019 campaign come to a close in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) semifinals, falling to the regular season champion Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, 69-41, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday night.  The Stars wrap up the year with a 17-10 overall mark, going 12-8 in NACC play.  Dominican's 17 wins is the third-highest win total in the last 25 years of the program and the most since winning 19 games in 2011-12.

The Stars trailed just 16-10 after limiting the defending NACC Tournament champs to four first quarter field goals but the Warriors outscored the Stars 22-9 in the second quarter, opening a 38-19 lead at the break and never looked back.

Stephenee Huggans led the Stars in the loss, dropping in 15 points on 5-for-13 shooting while Samantha Wessel came off the bench to score ten points in 18 minutes.

As a team, the Stars converted on just 16 of their 56 attempts from the field, including 4-for-12 from three.

For the Warriors, Jen Dowden scored a team-high 15 points, leading three in double-figure scoring.  The senior shot 5-for-11 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line.  As a team, the Warriors converted on 16 of 19 attempts from the charity stripe.

Maddy Elrod added 12 points while Tierney Woodward chipped in 11 as Wisconsin Lutheran outscored the Stars 27-16 in the paint.

Wisconsin Lutheran will play for their ninth conference tournament crown on Saturday, taking on the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons who topped Lakeland on Friday night.  It will be the second straight season the Falcons and Warriors meet in the tournament championship and the fifth time in the history of the NACC.
