Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Stars Stumble Against Spartans

The third-ranked Dominican University men's volleyball team dropped their second straight match, falling to the Aurora University Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Aurora's Thornton Gymnasium.  The Stars took the first two sets before dropping the final three sets (18-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-11) to slip to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).  The back-to-back setbacks are the first back-to-back losses for Dominican since falling to Kean University and Stevens Tech back on March 6 and March 8, 2016.

"Hats off to Coach Seitleman and his team," said Dan Pawlikowski, the Stars' head men's volleyball coach, following the match. "They played with a ton of energy and fought back to earn the win. The NACC is a really tough conference—as we are finding out.  Conference road wins are going to be difficult to come by and we need to be able to play a complete match. I thought we did some positive things but clearly the ship hasn't been righted just yet. No excuses for us…just time to reflect and learn."

Dominican's offense was firing on all cylinders hitting .395 through the first two sets before stalling in the third, managing just seven kills while committing eight errors.  The offense then couldn't get back on track in the fourth and fifth sets, knocking down 11 kills and committing 11 errors on 51 attacks over the final two sets.

The Stars, paced by Ethan Klosak and Adam Eboli who collected nine kills apiece, finished the match hitting .138 while the Spartans hit .201 with 56 kills on 139 attacks while committing 28 errors.

Dominican will return to action on Wednesday, taking a break from league play to hit the road for Kenosha, Wisconsin to meet the fifth-ranked Carthage College Red Men.  The match, the third straight on the road for the Stars, is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
