The Dominican University men's volleyball team coasted to a pair of victories on Friday evening at the Igini Sports Forum, sweeping through the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 25-17, 25-12, 25-11, in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action before breezing past the North Park University Vikings, 25-9, 25-20, 25-17, in a non-conference tilt. With the win, the Stars, ranked fifth in this week's AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Poll, improve to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play. The Stars will be back in action on Saturday night at the Igini Sports Forum, hosting the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks in NACC play.
"Another good night for our program," said Dan Pawlikowski, the Stars' second-year head coach. "It's always great to open conference play with a win and protect our home court against a more than capable CUW squad. Very excited to see some of the younger guys step up and contribute in the North Park match as well."
Combined, the Stars hit a whopping .466 with 76 kills on just 131 attacks while committing just 15 total errors. Defensively, the Stars allowed just 42 kills over the six sets while collecting 42 digs and posting 12 total blocks.
Dominican d. Concordia Wisconsin, 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-11)
In their NACC season opener, Dominican hit .500 and managed a sideout percentage of .800 in rolling over the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. Freshman
George Kougan led the Stars' attack, hitting .615 while knocking down a match-high nine kills on just 13 swings.
Ethan Klosak added eight kills despite playing in just the first two sets of the win while
Adam Eboli added seven kills on eight attempts. Sophomore setter
Jack McGuire dished out 32 assists while utilizing ten different attackers.
Defensively, the Stars forced the Falcons into 19 errors while allowing just 18 kills to limit Concordia Wisconsin to a -.015 attack percentage.
Jake Sidner collected a team-high six digs while Dominican's front row tallied five blocks, including three total blocks for
Adrian Cebula.
Dominican d. North Park, 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-17)
The Stars needed just 54 minutes to down the visiting North Park University Vikings. The Stars hit .429 in the winning effort, paced by
Trey Cowan who tallied 13 kills on 21 swings.
Defensively,
Mat Molloy collected a team-high seven digs while the Stars posted seven total blocks at the net to hold the Vikings to a .055 attack percentage.
