The Dominican University men's volleyball team scored a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-23, 25-12) of the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Stars, ranked 15
th in the latest AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Poll, improve to 14-9 on the season and 9-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
"For the first time in a long while, I think we walked off the court feeling we gave our best effort as a group," commented Dan Pawlikowski, the Stars' second-year head coach, after the win. "We had stellar play from our bench and fought back to win after being down in the second set. Then we really turned it up offensively in the third set to close out the sweep. Another quality conference road win for us will hopefully help our confidence as we take on first-place Benedictine next week."
The Stars had their second-most efficient offensive output of the season, hitting .465 as a team behind setter
Jack McGuire who doled out 33 assists.
Jake Sidner and
Ethan Klosak provided a one-two punch for Dominican, knocking down 14 and 12 kills respectively. In the third set alone, Dominican hit an impressive .857, going for 12 kills on just 14 attacks.
Defensively, the Stars limited the Scarlet Hawks to just 28 kills in the match on a .197 attack percentage. Dominican collected 22 digs, five apiece for Klosak and libero
Bregin DeMarco. At the net, the Stars tallied four total blocks, including two block assists for Troy Kates.
With just two weeks remaining in the regular season and four NACC contests, Dominican sits in third place in the NACC standings, one game behind MSOE for second place and two games behind the front-running Benedictine University Eagles.
