The Dominican University men's tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) dual matches on Saturday, dropping their morning match to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 9-0, before topping the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, 9-0. The split pushes the Stars to 5-5 on the season and 3-3 in league play.
Â
"We competed at times with Concordia Wisconsin but they showed why they are at the top of the NACC," commented Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head coach. "They capitalized on our mistakes early and often throughout the match. Against Wisconsin Lutheran, we competed and put together an impressive performance. We set the tone for the match in doubles play and carried that through singles. Both Alex [Tobias] and Antonio [Morales] battled back after dropping their first sets. That was good to see and was a big confidence boost for the rest of the match."
Â
Playing at numbers one and two singles respectively, Dominican's
Alexander Tobias and
Antonio Morales, both rallied in the win over Wisconsin Lutheran. Tobias dropped his first set to the Warriors' Jonny Wordell, 6-0, before cruising in the second set, 6-2, and the tie-breaker, 10-2. Morales followed suit, topping WLC's Matt Plaski, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Â
Brandon Pineda continued his solid freshman season, improving to 6-4 at number three singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over David Ullerich.

The Stars will travel to Lake Forest College on Wednesday, taking a break from NACC play, before returning to league play next Saturday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans and Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks.Â
