The Dominican University men's tennis team, taking a break from Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, fell to the Lake Forest College Foresters on Wednesday evening, 8-1. The loss drops the Stars to 5-6 on the season and closes out the non-conference portion of the Stars' 2019 slate with just three NACC matches remaining on the regular season schedule.
"Not the result we were looking for," said Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head men's tennis coach, "but it is always nice to see different competition in the middle of the conference slate. We battled early but could not sustain the consistency to earn more match points. It was good to see
Brandon Pineda get on the board once again. He has done a great job of grinding out points which led to much success today and on the season."
Pineda tallied the Stars' lone point, improving to 7-4 on the season in singles play with a 6-2, 2-6, 15-13 win at number three singles.
The Stars will return to action on Saturday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans at 10:00 a.m. before taking on the NACC-leading Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks at 2:00 p.m. Dominican then closes out the 2019 regular season on Saturday, April 27, with a match at neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago.
