The Dominican University men's tennis team dropped a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) dual matches on Saturday, getting edged, 5-4, by the Aurora University Spartans before getting dropped by the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks, 9-0. The losses drop the Stars to 5-8 overall and 3-5 in NACC play.
"Tough day today," said Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head coach. "We played hard but did not take advantage of opportunities often enough to get a match today. We battled and grinded, but didn't put together a complete team effort. We will have to rebound quickly to gear up for the conference tournament."
The Stars picked up one point in doubles play against the Spartans when Dominican's number one doubles combo of
Alexander Tobias and
Antonio Morales topped Aurora's Freeman Rosencrans and Jared Burrow, 8-4. Tobias then claimed one of three points for Dominican in singles play, topping Burrow, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1, at number one singles.
Brandon Pineda and
Eric Sigaran also logged singles wins. For Pineda, the win was the eighth of the year for the freshman at number three singles.
The Stars have just one match remaining on the 2019 regular season slate, traveling down Division Street to meet the Concordia University Chicago Cougars next Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
