The Dominican University women's tennis team opened the 2019 season on Saturday, falling 9-0 to the Beloit College Buccaneers in Beloit, Wisconsin.
"Despite the final result," said
Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head women's tennis coach, "we are far ahead of where we were a year ago. Overall, we were more consistent, competitive and managed to get a game in all nine matches. A step in the right direction. We have a lot of work ahead of us; but I am very encouraged."

The Stars best chance at nabbing a point came at number one doubles and the number three singles flight. In doubles play,
Juliana Neiza and freshman
Julia Hochstatter fell to Beloit's Kiri Youngquist and Priya Heinen, 8-4, while
Maya Banks forced a tie-breaker game at the third singles flight, falling 7-5 in the first set before running out of steam, 6-1, in the second set.

Dominican, now 0-1 on the season, returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to North Park to take on the Vikings before opening Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play next Saturday with Marian University and Lakeland University visiting the Stars in Forest Park, Illinois.
