Stars Finish Ripon Quad Sweep

The Dominican University women's volleyball team finished off its run through the Ripon College Quad, sweeping the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings, 25-11, 25-20, 25-18, before closing out the quad with a three-set win over the host Ripon College Red Hawks, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18.  Following the tournament, Dominican University Keely McCallum was named to the Ripon College Quad All-Tournament Team after the rookie knocked down 16 kills on 29 total attacks, averaging 2.0 kills per set while posting a .517 attack percentage.

"I was very proud of what our team accomplished this weekend," said head coach Cameron Andrew following the Stars' wins. "We made some great improvements from our scrimmage one week ago. With that said, we saw some things we need to continue to sharpen and improve. I'm looking forward to getting into the practice gym this week to see how far we can come."

The Stars, paced by Summer Smith's nine kills on 15 swings, hit .235 in the win over Bethany Lutheran. McCallum added seven kills of her own on just 12 swings while Gabija Sinickaite knocked down six and Gillian Jones tallied four.  Anastasia Labadessa ran the offense, dishing out 21 assists.

Defensively, the Stars limited the Vikings to just 17 kills for the match on a .088 hitting percentage while forcing Bethany Lutheran into 11 attack errors.  Sarah Lychock led three players in double-figures with a match-high 24 digs while Jones, McCallum and Sinickaite posted a solo block apiece.

In the win over Ripon, Dominican's setters, Labadessa (25 assists) and Natalie Jones (14 assists), continued to spread the ball around with Smith and Sinickaite tallying 11 kills apiece while McCallum added another seven.  As a team, the Stars hit .292 with just 13 errors on 120 attack attempts.

The host Red Hawks managed to hit just .133 with Dominican allowing just 30 attacks to find the court.  Smith and Lychock led the back row effort with ten digs apiece while Lauren LaVigne added nine digs and Labadessa eight.  At the net, Dominican posted six total blocks led by Emily Mahoney's four block assists and Ola Magiera's one solo block and two block assists.

Dominican, now 3-0 on the season, travels to Loras College next weekend for four matches at the Loras Invitational.

"Next weekend will see a steep increase in our level of competition," continued Andrew. "We start out the tournament with Wash U—ranked in the top 15 nationally right now."
