Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Grind Out Win Over Greenville

The Dominican University men's soccer team picked up their second shutout victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, topping the visiting Greenville University Panthers, 1-0, at West Campus Field.  Freshman Vicente Castro's first goal of the season came in the 29th minute of play before the Stars stingy defense limited Greenville to just three shots on goal, none of which came from inside the 18-yard box.

"The guys did a great job executing our game plan today," commented Erick Baumann, the Stars' head men's soccer coach. "They responded nicely from our last match and showed up with great competitiveness and intensity.  It was a nice clean sheet and all-around team win."

Castro's tally came after the freshman collected a loose ball near midfield and carried towards the Greenville goal.  Castro then poked a pass to Isaac Perez before continuing his run towards the top of the 18-yard box.  Perez then slipped a pass back to Castro near the penalty spot before Castro took a touch to his left to get around Greenville's Nick Holland, the goalkeeper, before rolling a shot inside the left post.  For Castro it was his first career tally and first game-winner.

Dominican's Daniel Dominguez made sure the score held up, making three saves en route to his second shutout of the season.

The Panthers held a slight 11-8 advantage in shots with Dominican putting four shots on goal to Greenville's three. Dominican had a marked advantage in restarts, earning seven corner kicks to Greenville's two while the Panthers were whistled for 17 fouls to Dominican's 11.

The Stars have a quick turnaround, returning to the pitch tomorrow to take on the North Park University Vikings.  Kickoff is slated for 5:00 p.m. at the Vikings Holmgren Complex in nearby Chicago.
