The Dominican University men's basketball team suffered a 104-64 setback in the River Forest Rivalry series, falling to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum. The Stars opened a 7-5 lead after a three by
Braquan Echols early in the first half before 20-0 run for the Cougars put the Stars in a hole they could not escape.
"Concordia outplayed us in every facet of the game today," said
Mark White, the Stars' head men's basketball coach. "We'll take this result, learn from it and move forward."
The Cougars shot a blistering 55-percent for the game, including converting on 15 of 25 attempts from three, while the Stars converted on just 24 of 67 attempts from the field, including seven of 26 from three.
Jackson Smith continued his hot streak for Dominican, scoring a game-high 24 points after dropping in 41 points his last time out.
For the Cougars, Raushaun Amos scored a team-high 18 points, going 5-for-7 from three, to lead seven in double-figures scoring. Xeo Golding, Jaxon Gaddie and Charlie Reznikoff all added 14 points while Brent Hatten added 13 points, connecting on 3-for-4 from three.
The loss drops the Stars to 7-6 on the season and 3-5 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, snapping a four-game winning streak. The Stars return to action on Wednesday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at the Igini Sports Forum.
