Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Tripped Up By Falcons

The Dominican University women's basketball team slipped in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Tuesday night, falling to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 71-63, on the road in Mequon, Wisconsin.  The loss drops the Stars to 12-6 overall and 8-5 in league play.

"We were extremely undisciplined on both ends tonight," commented Amanda Parker, the Stars' head coach. "We can't play like that and beat teams that have true tradition. Hats off to CUW, they were better at every aspect of the game…We need to be better."

The Stars started fast, using a 12-2 run to open the game before the Falcons managed to trim the Dominican lead down to five by the end of the first quarter.

Dominican then scored the first six points of the second quarter, opening their largest lead of the night, 26-15, with 8:33 remaining in the opening half.

A 17-2 run for the Falcons erased the Dominican lead and the hosts went into the break with a two-point, 35-33, lead.

Concordia Wisconsin built upon their lead throughout much of the third period, taking their largest lead of the night, 51-39 with 3:42 to play in the quarter, when Emily Hafemann knocked down a three in transition.

The Stars managed to score the final seven points of the quarter, trimming the deficit down to five, 51-46, heading into the fourth.

Amari Stafford opened the fourth quarter scoring when she knocked down a three, cutting the Concordia Wisconsin lead down to two, 51-49, but the Falcons did enough on the offensive end of the floor, shooting 6-for-12 from the field and going 8-for-11 at the foul line to keep the Stars at bay.

Timiya Ray paced the Stars, logging her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Alexis Hoskins added 14 points while Nyema Burns finished with 11 points before fouling out after just 27 minutes of floor time.

For the Falcons, Hafemann netted a game-high 24 points on 8-for-18 shooting, leading three in double-figures for Concordia Wisconsin.  Camryn Szolyga added 20 points, going 10-for-14 at the foul line while Clara Chambers chipped in 12 in the winning effort.

Dominican will return to action on Thursday, traveling to Aurora University to take on the Spartans. The Stars will then return home to host the Alverno College Inferno on Saturday evening at the Igini Sports Forum.
