The Dominican University women's basketball teams dusted off their game shoes for the first time since December 21
st, cruising to an 84-51 win over the visiting Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks at the Igini Sports Forum on Wednesday night. With the win, the Stars improve to 7-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a River Forest Rivalry matchup with the Concordia Chicago Cougars on deck for Saturday afternoon at Dominican.
"It was really good for us to compete against someone else," commented
Amanda Parker, the Stars head coach, following her team's win. "We did not play extremely defensively—a lot of lapses and way too much fouling. However, it was nice to see some shoot the ball well since they had been struggling prior to this game. We have a lot to improve upon before our rivalry game against CUC Saturday."
Amari Stafford scored a team-high 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting for the Stars in just 21 minutes of floor time. The senior guard shot 5-for-10 from behind the three-point arc and added six assists and two steals in the winning effort.
Alexis Hoskins and
Alisha Markley rounded out three in double-figures scoring, chipping in 15 and 13 points respectively. In just 14 minutes of work, Hoskins shot 6-for-9 from the field, going 3-for-5 from three. Markley also knocked down three threes as the Stars shot 14-for-39 from long range.
For the Scarlet Hawks, Shannon O'Donnell scored a game-high 21 points, converting on 15 of 18 trips from the free throw line. Meredith Williams and Erin Nelson added 12 points apiece.
