Stars Drop Season Finale

The Dominican University men's basketball team dropped their 2019-2020 season finale, falling 93-90 to the Lakeland University Muskies at the Igini Sports Forum.  With the loss, the Stars close out the season at 11-14 overall, going 7-13 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

On Saturday, the Stars led by as many as 19 in the first half and held a 14-point, 67-53, lead midway through the second half before a 20-5 helped the Muskies erase the Dominican lead, 73-72 with 4:44 to play, and the Stars would not lead the rest of the afternoon.

"I thought we played really well early," said Mark White, the Stars' head coach, following the loss. "We got away from what helped us build that lead and against a good team like Lakeland, you just cannot do that."

Jackson Smith scored a game-high 29 points in the losing effort.  The junior shot 9-for-23 from the field, going 5-for-12 from three. Tyler Guest and Nick Lavere added 12 points apiece as the Stars put three in double-figures scoring.  Guest pulled down a team-high ten rebounds, closing out the season with his tenth double-double.

For the Muskies, Zach Hasenstein came off the bench, dropping in 17 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including 2-for-4 from three, to lead six in double-figures.

As a team, Dominican won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Muskies 45-34 but Lakeland managed to shoot at a 49-percent clip while the Stars converted at a 44-percent clip from the field.
