The Dominican University women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Friday night with a 63-60 loss to the top-seeded Benedictine University Eagles in the semifinal round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament. With the loss, the Stars close out the 2019-2020 season with a 19-8 overall record, falling in the conference semis for the second consecutive season.
The Stars fell behind 20-7 after Benedictine used a 13-0 run to close the first quarter. Dominican managed to trim the lead down to two, 62-60, in the final twenty seconds behind a 23-point fourth quarter, but missed a pair of threes in the final ten seconds after Benedictine hit on the front end of a pair of free throws.
"Bittersweet moment as our season comes to an end," commented
Amanda Parker, the Stars second-year head coach. "This team has truly accomplished some amazing things and should be extremely proud. We are sad to see the four seniors' careers come to an end…what they have done in a Dominican jersey is admirable. They are irreplaceable as people and players. We will truly miss them."
After shooting just 18-percent in the opening period, the Stars finished shooting 31-percent, 19-for-61, from the field in the game.
Timiya Ray scored a team-high 19 points in the loss, shooting 6-for-12 from the field. The senior scored eight of her 19 in Dominican's fourth-quarter comeback.
