The Dominican University softball team suffered a pair of losses on Wednesday, falling to the Emmanuel College Saints, 7-1, before dropping a 13-3 game to the University of Mount Union Raiders. The losses drop the Stars to 5-7 overall with four games to play on the team's annual spring trip. The Stars will close out the east coast swing on Friday and Saturday, taking on Nichols College and Wheaton College on Friday, before squaring off with Lake Forest College and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday.
Game One: Emmanuel 7, Dominican 1
The Saints homered on the third pitch of the game off of Dominican's
Allyson Dilday and Emmanuel College never looked back. The Saints added a run in fourth before breaking the game open in the sixth with five runs and chasing Dilday from the game.
The Stars scratched across their lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, scoring on
Candace Kipp's first home run of the season. The long ball was one of just three hits for the Stars in the loss.
Dilday fell to 2-3 on the season, surrendering all seven runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four.
Game Two: Mount Union 13, Dominican 3
After the Stars tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third, the Raiders scored ten unanswered runs, including an eight-run fourth to drop the Stars 13-3 in five innings.
Cat Klostermann suffered the loss in the circle, tagged for ten runs, six earned, on 12 hits and two walks in 2.2 innings of work out of the bullpen.
Offensively, the Stars managed eight hits but stranded five runners in the five innings.
Makayla Barnes and
Julia Orozco picked up two hits apiece, including a run-scoring double for Orozco.
