The Dominican University men's volleyball team, ranked fourth in the country, suffered their first setback of the season on Sunday, falling to the Marymount University Saints in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) on the road in Arlington, Virginia. The loss drops the Stars to 12-1 on the season, snapping Dominican's 12-match winning streak.
"Tough day for the Stars today," said
Cameron Andrew, the Stars' first-year head coach. "We just couldn't get into any sort of groove. The service line, serve receive, dig to transition offense were all a bit off. Now we are just going to work on resetting and getting ourselves refreshed and ready to go against a really talented Southern Virginia team on Tuesday."
The Stars hit a season-low .214 in the loss, dipping below .270 for just the third time all season. The Saints managed to hit .222, racking up 39 kills to Dominican's 34.
Jack McGuire logged a double-double in the loss, his fourth of the season, in dishing out 29 assists and collecting a team-high 11 digs.
George Kougan led the way offensively, picking up ten kills on 27 swings.
Dominican's block was the only facet of the game that out-played the Saints, picking up nine blocks for the match.
Mat Molloy picked up five assisted blocks and Kougan got in on four blocks.
Dominican returns to action in Virginia on Tuesday, taking on the Southern Virginia Knights at 7:00 p.m. ET.
