The Dominican University baseball team improved to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 on their road trip to the Florida Coast Spring Training tournament with a 15-3 win over the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida.  The Stars used four pitchers in the seven-inning win, combining for 14 strikeouts while allowing just three hits.

Offensively, the Stars managed to 15 hits, including three extra-base hits, and worked five walks.

"I challenged our guys not to not just compete against the other team, but also compete against themselves," commented
Steve Hardman, the Stars' head baseball coach since 2012. "Challenged them to be better pitch to pitch and day to day…they responded well. We were able to get a lot of guys time today and each guy was more competitive today than yesterday. I hope to see this same approach moving forward."

Freshman Jeremy Davidson picked up the win, improving to 2-0 on the season and shaking off a rough first inning that saw the rookie right-hander allow one run on two walks, two hit-batters and a fielder's choice.  Davidson then settled in, striking out nine straight from the third out in the third until the second in fourth before giving way to the bullpen.

Edward Kerner then worked a 1-2-3 fifth and
Seth Hoffman set the Golden Tornadoes down in the sixth after giving up a leadoff double.
Noah Loeffler than closed out the win, giving up a pair of runs on two hits and walk in the seventh before closing out the game with the Stars' 14
th punchout of the game.

After Geneva took the early 1-0 lead,
Johnny Condron evened the game with a leadoff, inside-the-park home run to start the bottom of the second.  Condron lined a ball the base of the wall in right-center before hustling his way around the bases after the ball caromed away from Geneva's Gabriel Morales in center.

The Stars went on to add four more runs in the frame and then tacked on seven in the bottom of the third.  The first two runs in that inning crossed on bases loaded walks while the third came when
Ryan Simak was hit with a 1-0 offering.  An out later,
Frankie Sessa delivered a two-run single and later scored on a wild pitch.

Dominican's bench then joined the fun, pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Alberto Garcia worked a bases loaded walk, as four bats off the bench reached base to open the inning.  Cameron Stafford then plated a run on an infield single before
Thomas Ross drove in the Stars' final run of the game with a sacrifice fly.

Condron was one of three players to log multiple hits, going 2-for-2.
Mason Baker and Stafford both went 2-for-3 with Baker picking up a double and Stafford driving in two runs.

Dominican will be back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Vero Beach, Florida, for a 10:00 a.m. ET game against the Gettysburg College Bullets.  The Stars will then get their only off day of the week on Wednesday.
