The Dominican University department of athletics will profile one of the eight nominees for the department's 2020 Senior Scholar Athlete award each day leading up to the announcement of the 2020 Senior Scholar Athlete on Tuesday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday's nominee is women's tennis's
Maya Banks.
With a 3.89 cumulative grade point average as an accounting major, Banks was Dominican University's 2019 Lincoln Laureate winner and a semifinalist for the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award in April of 2020. During her time at Dominican, Banks landed an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers which will lead to a job with the Big 5 accounting firm following graduation. Banks has been named to the Dean's List six semesters and Honor's List once.
Recruited to Dominican to play basketball, Banks retired from basketball following her sophomore season and joined the women's tennis team for her junior and senior years at the university, playing primarily at number three singles and on the Stars' number two doubles team, appearing in all 26 matches for the Stars during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
