RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer program downed St. Norbert College 2-0 on Monday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.
Both sides battled to gain control in this pivotal NACC contest, but the match was scoreless for the first 30 minutes.
Alex Espino broke the deadlock, however in the 31st minute, pouncing on a bouncing ball in the box and firing it into the back of the net to put DU up 1-0.
Dominican saw out its advantage to the halftime break against the previously-undefeated Green Knights. In the second half,
John Cronnolly doubled DU's advantage in the 57th minute after a mishandled cross from the SNC keeper ended up at his feet. Cronnolly converted on the easy chance in front of goal to put the Stars ahead 2-0.
DU finished off the final 30 minutes of action with strong defense and secured the victory, handing St. Norbert its first NACC loss of the season.
Daniel Dominguez was excellent in goal and had seven saves, all in the second half, and earned himself the clean sheet.
The Stars continue the back stretch of their NACC campaign on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., taking on Edgewood College on the road. Links to live coverage will be available via dustars.com.
