RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer team was defeated in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships on Saturday, falling to host-St. Olaf 3-0.
Dominican started off the match with some solid play, drawing two yellow cards on the Oles in the first 27 minutes. St. Olaf eventually struck first, however, getting on the board late in the 27th minute. Both sides battled, but neither broke through for the remainder of the opening half.
DU had an early corner kick which eventually created an opportunity for
Nick Kowalczyk, but his shot was saved in the 47th minute. St. Olaf extended its lead in the 59th minute on a header goal to pull ahead 2-0. The Oles put in an insurance goal a short time later and saw out the match, winning 3-0.
The Stars' season comes to an end following the program's 17th NCAA Tournament appearance and its 13th NACC Championship. Individually,
Vicente Castro earned the NACC's Offensive Player of the Year with DU receiving seven All-NACC selections.
