RIVER FOREST, Ill. — Dominican University's women's soccer team's historic 2021 season came to a close on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to No. 6 WashU in the second round of the 2021 Division III NCAA Championships.
DU hung tough against the hosts as both sides battled to a scoreless first half. WashU opened the scoring in the 67th minute to go ahead 1-0. Sophia Bartridge had an opportunity to level the score in the 74th minute, but had her shot attempt saved by the Bears keeper. Hannah Anderson also had a chance with less than two minutes remaining, but the WashU goalie kept her attempt out as the Bears came away with the 1-0 victory.
Dominican's historic season ends with them claiming both the NACC Regular Season and Postseason Championships. DU's win over Hanover in the first round is a landmark victory for the program, its first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament. The Stars also claimed the NACC's Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year Awards with Katie Norlie and Gabby Green, respectively.
