RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's basketball program dropped its home opener to Principia College, 94-83 in overtime, on Saturday afternoon.
The Stars started out strong, taking an early lead and holding a five-point advantage at the half. Principia made a late surge in the second half, tying up the score at 75-all on two critical free throws with less than two seconds left. PC built a four-point lead with two minutes to go in overtime and was able to stretch this margin to secure the victory, outscoring DU 19-8 in the extra frame.
Jackson Smith led the way for Dominican with 25 points, making four threes and adding five free throws.
Jacob Riedl had a double-double for the Stars with 16 points and 13 boards in a team-high 40 minutes.
Chris Daniels II chipped in 18 points and five rebounds, adding three steals on the defensive end.
Robert Taylor and
Christopher Burel each totaled 11 points as all five of DU's starters were in double-figures.
