Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

#6 Stars Silence Scarlet Hawks 3-0

Chicago, IL – The #6 Dominican University men's volleyball team made quick work of Illinois Tech, winning in straight sets (25-14, 25-16, 25-14) on Tuesday evening.

The first set was neck and neck with the Stars leading 13-12 before they put together a 12-2 run to close the set as kills by Mat Molloy and George Kougan sealed it for Dominican.

Bregin DeMarco set up Jack McGuire for the kill to give the Stars a 10-4 advantage in the early going of the second set. After the Scarlet Hawks cut the deficit to four, 13-9, a pair of kills by Kougan opened up some breathing room at 18-11. The home team would get as close as five, trailing Dominican 20-15 but errors plagued IIT throughout the entire set as a total of 12 led to a 25-16 set going in the Stars favor.

An Adrian Cebula kill gave Dominican a healthy 13-6 lead in the third which grew to double-digits, 19-8 after a Jacob Bush kill. Errors again troubled the Scarlett Hawks as they never pulled within single digits as 16 totals errors helped Dominican win the third set, 25-14, and the match three sets to none.

Kougan paced the offensive attack with 10 kills while McGuire dished out 24 assists. Cebula had an impressive 10 digs on the defensive end.

"Tonight was the most complete match we've played this season," said Assistant Coach Doug Burchett. We did a phenomenal job at the service line putting pressure on their passers." To that point, the Scarlet Hawks made six receiving errors and routinely had issues setting up their attack.

"We're most proud of our defensive effort tonight, (30 digs, seven blocks), which helped create offensive opportunities," continued Burchett. "That was something we had been focusing on a lot in practice and it was nice to see it start to click tonight."

Dominican has a quick turnaround as it travels to Benedictine for a 7:00 p.m. match on Thursday night.
