Box Score Lisle, IL – The Dominican University men's basketball team was unable to match Benedictine's hot shooting, losing 74-48 on Saturday evening.
Jackson Smith paced the Stars' attack for the second straight night, scoring 18 points while narrowly missing out on a double-double with nine rebounds. Dylan Anderson was the only other Dominican scorer in double figures, registering 10 points on an efficient 3-of-5 shooting to go along with eight boards.
An Anderson 3-pointer knotted the score at 17-17, nine minutes into the ballgame but, Benedictine used a 15-2 spurt over 5:33 of play to open up a 32-19 lead.
A three-point play by Smith cut the deficit to six, 33-27, with 2:46 remaining in the opening stanza. The Eagles would answer by closing the half on a 9-0 run to head to the break-up 42-27.
Benedictine maintained a double-digit advantage for the entire second half, pushing the cushion into the twenties on its way to a 74-48 win.
"We really struggled on offense today," said Head Coach Mark White. "We turned the ball over too many times and never really got into a flow offensively. We'll use tomorrow's day off to recover physically and use next week's practices to improve in the offensive and defensive areas, where we were exposed this weekend."
The Eagles held a healthy advantage in field goal percentage, 45.5%-33.3%, while outscoring the Stars in the paint, 48-22.
Dominican returns to the Igini Sports Forum on Friday, February 12th for a non-conference tilt with Illinois College at 5:00 p.m.
