Game Recap: Baseball |

Stars Drop Two to Vikings

Schaumburg, IL -

Game 1 Recap:

The Dominican University Baseball team opened up the 2021 season after nearly a year off from competition. On a cold and windy day, the Stars would drop both games in the double header matchup with North Park University. The Stars would drop the first game 14-2 before falling 8-1 in game two.

The Vikings would score early in the first game, scoring two runs off three hits against starting pitcher Bryant Bagshaw. North Park would then go on to score a run in each of the next two innings before putting up a four-run inning off of a grand slam in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-0. The Vikings would continue their offensive attack and tack on six more runs over the eighth and ninth inning.

"There was not a lot of good that we could take out of today's games. We did not compete as well as I would have liked and at times we were overmatched," said Head Baseball Coach Steve Hardman. To echo Coach Hardman's point, the Vikings would end the first game amassing 16 hits.

The Stars would show signs of life with their bats in the ninth inning via an RBI double by Tyler Trojan and a RBI single off the bat of Cameron Stafford. The hitting spurt would end there as the Vikings would take game one 14-2.

Game 2 Recap:

The second game of the double header would see both teams go scoreless before the Vikings erupted for a four-run inning in the fourth. The Vikings would then add to their lead scoring four more runs between the seventh and eighth inning. The Stars only run would come in the ninth inning as Keegan Brandt would bring in Garrett Wano off a single to right field. The Vikings would complete the sweep for the day winnning 8-1.

Coach Hardman would go on to say, "I know we are capable of more and I hope that team comes ready to go tomorrow."

The Stars will regroup quickly as they face the Vikings again on Saturday, March 13th in a double header matchup. First pitch is set for noon at Wintrust Field.
