Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Shutout Regents 3-0

River Forest, IL – The Dominican University men's soccer team returned to the pitch at West Campus Field and in rainy, windy and cold conditions, defeated the visiting Rockford Regents 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Vicente Castro started the scoring in the 15th minute as he finished a pass from Giacomo Parrino for his second goal of the season.

The rest of the half remained scoreless but Dominican dominated possession, outshooting Rockford 11-1 in the first 45 minutes while holding a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

It was more of the same story in the second half as the Stars controlled the ball for the majority of the time but we're unable to put one past the Regents goalkeeper.

That changed in the 76th minute as a Rockford hand ball in the box led to a penalty kick that Jonathan Hernandez buried in the top right corner for his fourth goal of the season to give Dominican a 2-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, Randall Pietrowski played a beautiful ball from outside the top left corner of the box into the crease and Parrino headed it into the bottom right corner to cap off a 3-0 victory for the Stars.

"Rockford was very hard working and organized today. They made the game difficult for us to break them down," said Head Coach Erick Baumann. "We needed to play faster and not so much from sideline to sideline. When we played one and two touches in the final third and went to the goal we had more success."

That type of play was more evident in the second 45 minutes as the Stars bombarded the Regents net with 15 shots.

"These type of games can be frustrating but it's a challenge we need to overcome as a group, continued Coach Baumann. "No one is going to make it easy on us and we should know that. We can't make it any harder than it needs to be."

Dominican will look to make it three straight to start the season on Sunday, March 21st when it welcomes Benedictine to West Campus Field for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
