River Forest, IL – The Dominican University men's soccer team completed the season sweep of Concordia University Chicago winning a tight match of 1-0.
The score remained scoreless in the first half up until the 34
th minute when
Vicente Castro connected for his fifth goal of the season and the only goal of the game to give the Stars' the lead. The Stars' defense would remain solid and disciplined, as they would only account for five total fouls compared to the Cougars 17. Dominican would limit Concordia Chicago to zero shots in the first half and only final for the whole game.
Although Castro's goal proved to be the difference, it was
Martin Lamas who would come up big for the Stars in ways that did not show on the stat sheet. "I thought
Martin Lamas was the player of the match for us," said Head Coach
Erick Baumann. "His leadership, competitiveness, and the quality of his play was fantastic. That's a snap shot of what we needed more of from our players."
With the sweep, the Stars move to 5-0 and will be back in action in a Wednesday match-up with the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin. Game time is set for 4:00 pm on West Campus Field.
